What Bala Chaturdashi is

Bala Chaturdashi is Mangsir Krishna Chaturdashi. Families who have lost someone, above all within the past year, keep vigil with lamps through the night at Pashupatinath and at dawn walk the forest of Shleshmantak scattering satbij, seven kinds of seed, in their memory. Each seed is said to bring the departed peace.

How families keep it

Away from Nepal, families light a lamp in the name of the departed, offer the seven seeds at a temple or a clean place and hold a puja or tarpan.
