Jitiya, or Jivitputrika, is kept on Ashwin Krishna Ashtami, mainly by Tharu and Maithil women of Nepal's Terai. Mothers fast through the day and night, without water, for the health and long life of their children. The story told that day is of King Jimutavahan, who gave his own life to save another's child.
How families keep it
Women bathe in a river or pond before dawn, keep the fast, listen to the story together and break the fast the next morning.

Each date is the day Nepal keeps the festival. Nepal publishes its patro one year at a time, so a date further ahead can move by a day when that year's patro comes out. For a ceremony, Pandit Ji confirms the day and the muhurta.
