What Krishna Janmashtami is

Krishna Janmashtami is Bhadra Krishna Ashtami, the night Lord Krishna was born. Krishna is the eighth avatar of Vishnu and the teacher of the Bhagavad Gita. Devotees fast through the day and stay awake until midnight, the hour of his birth.

How families keep it

Homes and temples sing bhajan, read from the Gita and the Bhagavat and rock the infant Krishna in a cradle at midnight. In Nepal the Krishna Mandir of Patan fills with devotees.
