Matatirtha Aunsi is the new-moon day of Baisakh Krishna paksha, known in every Nepali home as Aama ko Mukh Herne Din, the day to see your mother's face. Children honour their mothers with sweets, gifts and a visit. Those whose mothers have passed away remember them that day; in Nepal many go to Matatirtha, west of Kathmandu, to bathe and offer tarpan.
How families keep it
Sons and daughters bring their mother her favourite food and clothes and take her blessing. Families who have lost their mother offer tarpan or a sraddha in her name.

Each date is the day Nepal keeps the festival. Nepal publishes its patro one year at a time, so a date further ahead can move by a day when that year's patro comes out. For a ceremony, Pandit Ji confirms the day and the muhurta.
