Nepali New Year is Baisakh 1, the day the Bikram Sambat year turns. It falls in the middle of April, as the Sun enters Mesh rashi. Families treat it as a day to begin the year well, with a visit to the temple, a puja at home and good wishes for elders, relatives and friends.
How families keep it
Many homes hold a Satyanarayan puja or a small puja of their own, share a meal and exchange the greeting "Naya Barsha ko Shubhakamana".

Each date is the day Nepal keeps the festival. Nepal publishes its patro one year at a time, so a date further ahead can move by a day when that year's patro comes out. For a ceremony, Pandit Ji confirms the day and the muhurta.
