Nirjala Ekadashi is the eleventh day of the bright fortnight of Jestha, in the heat of early summer. Nirjala means without water. Bhimsen could not go hungry twice a month, and was told that this one fast, kept in full, counts for every Ekadashi of the year; so it is also called Bhimseni Ekadashi. In Nepal it is also the day the tulsi seed is sown, to be planted out on Harishayani Ekadashi.
How families keep it
Those who keep it in full take neither food nor water from one sunrise to the next. Others keep it as they keep any Ekadashi, with fruit and water. Lord Vishnu is worshipped with tulsi leaves, water and fans are given away, and the fast is broken the next morning, on Dwadashi.

Each date is the day Nepal keeps the festival. Nepal publishes its patro one year at a time, so a date further ahead can move by a day when that year's patro comes out. For a ceremony, Pandit Ji confirms the day and the muhurta.
