What Poush Putrada Ekadashi is

Putrada means giver of children. This Putrada Ekadashi is the eleventh day of the bright fortnight of Poush. The Puranas tell of King Suketuman and Queen Shaibya, who were blessed with a son after keeping it. The other Putrada Ekadashi falls in Shrawan.

How families keep it

Those who keep the fast eat no grain or pulses that day; many take only fruit, milk and roots, and some take nothing at all. Lord Vishnu is worshipped with tulsi leaves, and the fast is broken the next morning, on Dwadashi.
