What Ram Navami is

Ram Navami is Chaitra Shukla Navami, the day Lord Ram, the seventh avatar of Vishnu, was born in Ayodhya at midday. Ram is honoured as the ideal son, husband and king. The day is kept by the tithi that holds midday.

How families keep it

Devotees fast, read the Ramayan and worship Ram, Sita, Laxman and Hanuman. In Nepal the Ram temple of Janakpur holds a great fair.
