What Saune Sankranti is

Saune Sankranti is the first day of Shrawan, when the Sun enters Karkat rashi and begins its southward course (Dakshinayan). The month that follows is dear to Shiva; many keep a fast on its Mondays. The day is also Luto Falne Din, when burning sticks are thrown from the house in the evening to drive skin ailments away.

How families keep it

Families bathe early, visit a Shiva temple and eat seasonal food together. Women wear green and yellow bangles and mehendi through the month.
