What Sonam Lhosar is

Sonam Lhosar is the New Year of the Tamang people, kept on Magh Shukla Pratipada. As in Tamu Lhosar, the year changes to the next of twelve animals. It is a public holiday in Nepal.

How families keep it

Families clean and decorate their homes, visit the monastery, and gather in traditional dress for food, the damphu drum and the Tamang Selo dance.
