What Sorha Sraddha begins is

Sorha Sraddha, also called Pitri Paksha, is the dark half of Ashwin: sixteen days set aside for those who have gone before us. Each family offers sraddha on the tithi on which its father, mother or elder passed away. It is believed the ancestors come to receive what their children offer in these days. The fortnight ends with Pitri Bisarjan Aunsi.

How families keep it

The family invites a pandit for the sraddha with pinda and tarpan, and feeds him and the relatives. New ventures and celebrations usually wait until the fortnight is over.

Each date is the day Nepal keeps the festival. Nepal publishes its patro one year at a time, so a date further ahead can move by a day when that year's patro comes out. For a ceremony, Pandit Ji confirms the day and the muhurta.
