Varuthini Ekadashi is the eleventh day of the dark fortnight of Baisakh. Varuthini means one who shields: the fast is kept in the belief that it guards a person from harm and wears away past wrongs. Lord Vishnu is worshipped in his Vamana form.
How families keep it
Those who keep the fast eat no grain or pulses that day; many take only fruit, milk and roots, and some take nothing at all. Lord Vishnu is worshipped with tulsi leaves, and the fast is broken the next morning, on Dwadashi.

Each date is the day Nepal keeps the festival. Nepal publishes its patro one year at a time, so a date further ahead can move by a day when that year's patro comes out. For a ceremony, Pandit Ji confirms the day and the muhurta.
