What Laxmi Puja is

Laxmi Puja is kept on the evening the new moon of Kartik holds, the third day of Tihar. Goddess Laxmi, who brings wealth and wellbeing, is welcomed into a clean, bright house. In the morning the cow is worshipped as her form (Gai Tihar). At night every door and window is lit with diyo and lights, which is why Tihar is the festival of lights.

How families keep it

The house is cleaned, a path is drawn from the door to the puja room and Laxmi is worshipped in the evening with lamps, flowers and sweets. Homes and businesses invite Pandit Ji for the puja; girls go from house to house singing Bhailo.
