See all servicesWhy the tithi here and in Nepal can differ
A day takes the tithi that is running at its sunrise. Nepal's sunrise comes about 11 hours before the sunrise in Dallas, Texas, so on about half of all days the US date already carries the next tithi. A family here holds its ceremony on the US date.
How this patro is worked out
The Nepali dates are those of Nepal's calendar; dates more than a year ahead can move by a day once Nepal publishes that year's calendar. Nepal's tithi is worked out the way Nepal's official patro works it out, and agrees with the published patro on every day of 2082 and 2083 BS. The US tithi follows the sun and the moon at sunrise in Dallas, Texas. Sunrise comes at another hour elsewhere in the US, so on a few days the tithi there can differ.
