What Fulpati is

Fulpati is Ashwin Shukla Saptami, the seventh day of Dashain. Fulpati means flowers and leaves: nine sacred plants, among them banana, sugarcane, pomegranate and bel, are brought into the puja room where the jamara is growing. The main days of Dashain begin, and families travel to be together.

How families keep it

The fulpati is carried in and worshipped beside the kalash. In Kathmandu it arrives from Gorkha and is received at Hanuman Dhoka with a parade.

Each date is the day Nepal keeps the festival. Nepal publishes its patro one year at a time, so a date further ahead can move by a day when that year's patro comes out. For a ceremony, Pandit Ji confirms the day and the muhurta.
